The short answer to question #2 is YES, you can sign up on your own. However, the short answer to question #1 is this: there is no charge to have a broker help you find a plan, and most brokers have access to tools that make it easier to narrow down your choices and help you find the right plan for your unique situation.
When choosing a broker, it’s important to use someone appointed by multiple carriers. An agent who represents multiple carriers can work to give you an unbiased opinion on your Medicare plan options. They are appointed by many different insurance companies so that they can find the right fit for you rather than having to push one carrier.
